Day 40: Unity changes the World

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all. Acts 4:32-33

The early church lived in such great unity that they shared everything they had with each other. This level of sharing sounds radical in the context of our individualistic Western culture, but the early believers’ lifestyle flowed from their understanding of Christ’s love for them. Their unity changed their mindset about money and material possessions. Imagine if City Church started giving in this way–how much impact we could have in the city of Chicago and in the world! Let us come together in unity and consider our possessions to be tools that we can use to help each other and further the Kingdom of God.

Lord Jesus, please unite our church in such a powerful way that we start giving radically and change the world for you. Help us to understand how much we are loved and to love each other the same way. Thank you that every good gift we have comes from you, and help us to bless you and bless others with our possessions. Give us the heart to see a need and meet it. Bring us together around your purpose, so that we may be a people who reflect your love to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
