Day 4: God is Good

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Matthew 7:11

Gift giving can be such a great way to show value for others. It can also feel a bit like a ritual; birthdays, christmas, valentines day. We get gifts because we are fulfilling some requirement to do it. Because of this we may not fully understand the value of a gift from our heavenly father. God does not give out of some obligation to give, there is no requirement he is just fulfilling. There is also no randomness to his giving, he doesn’t forget you, he doesn’t withhold from you and he doesn’t give you what you do not need. His giving is nothing like that shirt you got for Christmas, but tossed in your closet before you donated it a year later. God does not give gifts without intention. He gives with a skill and excellence that only a creator can. Gifts to live a life full of purpose and meaning. We can trust in Him that He is good, and that when we ask He will give. It may not look like what we think it should, or be exactly what we thought we needed. But everytime, if we allow Him to show us, we will see that all His gifts to us are good.

Jesus I thank you that you are a good father, and that you love me and have me on your mind. That you hear my requests and that you have exactly what I need. Help me to see the gifts that you have given me, from your perspective. Understanding that you are good, you always are and you always will be. So Lord, open my eyes and heart to trust in you, and believe in you, that everything you have for me is good.
