Day 39: Unity Commands a Blessing
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing— life forevermore. Psalm 133
The unity of God’s children is like a sweet aroma to the Lord. Because of how much God delights in our unity, he commands a blessing on it. In this psalm, the unity of God’s people is compared to precious oil reserved for anointing the High Priest, flowing down from the head to the feet. The anointing oil trickles down and touches every part of the body, illustrating the nature of unity in the church as both precious and holy, and also extravagantly poured out. This is how Christ’s love flows through the body of believers when we come together in unity. No person or place is too humble for the love of Christ to reach, bringing unity to the entire body of believers. God commands that his blessing rests on our unity.
Heavenly Father, we pray that your love would flow through us, bringing unity to our church to reach all of your people throughout Chicago, our country, and the world! We command division and dissent to yield to your name, that our church may be truly unified with one faith and one purpose, your mission. Thank you for the blessing that unity brings. We come together with our City Church family in unity, and we receive your blessing. Thank you, Father for your love. In Jesus’ name.
