Day 37: Generosity Brings Change
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. I John 4:11-12
Generosity not only benefits the recipient, but it also changes the giver’s heart and nature. It is often said that it is possible to give without loving, but it is impossible to love without giving. In the scripture above, we are told to love one another just as God loves us. As a believer, our giving is a demonstration of our love. When you give to your local church, you are saying that you love and support the church and its mission. When you give alms to the poor, you are saying that you love those individuals with the love of the Lord and care about their well-being. Our giving changes us from being self-centered to being more sensitive towards the things of God.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you would make it easy for me to love others the same way that you love me. I pray that my love for others would be a demonstration of your love for them. Father, please allow my love for others to bring them closer to you. Amen.
