Day 30: Give with Joy
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
Nothing is worse than a reluctant gift–when someone gives you something that they don’t really want to give but feel that they should. The reluctant gift does not bring joy. This is not how God wants us to give–begrudgingly or out of obligation. God asks for us to decide in our hearts what we want to give, and then give cheerfully. There is so much joy in a gift from the heart. When we give with joy, it not only brings joy to the recipient, but it brings joy to us too. Likewise, when we give God a gift from a place of genuine generosity, it brings him joy, and it brings us joy too.
Father God, thank you for your generosity towards us. Please move in our hearts and minds to know what you want us to give. May we be free from any sense of compulsion or obligation, and help us to give from a place of genuine love and generosity toward you.
